How to Know When a Car Engine Needs Replacing

19 February 2017

There are several ways to know if your engine is in need of fixing, or whether you need a full engine replacement to solve the problems that are occurring. Once the problem has been solved, you will be back on the road in no time at all.

Here at JTW Auto Parts, we realise the need for engines to be working at full capacity all the time. Read our helpful guide about how to know when your engine needs replacing.

Rattling or Humming Sounds

The most obvious sign that something is wrong with the engine is if it starts to make rattling or humming sounds that don’t seem to go away. This is often a sign that one of the components of the engine has started to come loose or is malfunctioning.

You shouldn’t ignore these noises, no matter how insignificant they appear to be at first. Remember that a small sound can soon develop into a deafening roar, so it pays not to put off any repairs for too long.

If the Car Overheats

The car overheating can be a signal that the engine is not working as well as it should be. An overheated engine can be damaged beyond repair, so do not attempt to drive any further once the overheating has occurred. The engine can be replaced by us if it is not working properly.

If Oil Leaks From the Car

If oil is leaking from the car during a journey or when the car is sat on the driveway, this is a sign that the engine is damaged and needs to be fixed. Check the engine to see if the drain plug, seals and gaskets are damaged in any way. If they are damaged, then they will need to be replaced before the engine can start to work properly again.

If the Engine is Taking a Long Time to Start

This is another key indication that the engine needs to be replaced by JTW Autoparts. A fully-working engine should only take a few seconds to start up. If it is taking much longer than a few seconds, then a replacement reconditioned engine could be in order.

Don’t try and rev the engine too much if it is failing to start, because this can cause lots of damage that may require a replacement to be fitted.

If the Engine Cuts Out

It is rare for the engines on modern cars to cut out suddenly. However, this will happen if the connections are not working properly. This could potentially be extremely dangerous if the car is travelling at high speeds.

If you think you need to have your engine replaced, use this article as a guideline. Contact JTW Autoparts for a full replacement!
